Heritage Heads UP – Sept 15, 2017

Heritage Roadrunners and Families,

We have settled into our school routines and the teachers and students seem to be doing excellent work so far. I can feel the excitement of learning in classrooms as I drop in and visit. I also really enjoy visiting with students throughout the day in the hallways, at recess and even during lunch. Heritage teachers and staff are excellent people and even better educators, they make Heritage GREAT!

I have three important items to make sure each of you know about!

  1. Picture Day – Tuesday, Sept 19 will be our Fall Picture day. CLICK HERE for the Lifetouch Picture day flier or visit my.lifetouch.com and use the Heritage code: UM377211Q0
  2. White Ribbon Week – This is our annual internet safety week. It will be Sept 25~29. There will be many great learning opportunities for your students and families. Prior to the White Ribbon Week with your students we will have a special Parent Night. This will be on Sept 20 at 6pm in English and again at 7pm in Spanish. Heritage Heads Up – Aug 23, 2017

Thank you for a great first few days of school. Your students have brought a smile to my face each day, I love working with them. Our teachers here at Heritage are all so fantastic and I hope you have enjoyed getting to know them. Below I have a few important things to share with each of you.

SEP Conferences: Scheduled for Aug 30 & 31. School will be in session from 9:00 to 3:30, then SEP Conferences will run from 4:00 to 7:00 pm each night. Each grade level has created a unique plan to meet with parents and set up each student for success. The most important and specific instructions regarding the SEP conferences will come from your child’s teacher. Please pay attention to notes and instructions from them. I look forward to seeing each one of you during our SEP conference time. These conferences are so important to establish a great working relationship with your child’s teacher. Attending this conference will help set up your student for success throughout the entire school year. At Heritage we strive to establish and maintain positive relationships with each of our students and their families. By working together we can have the biggest positive impact on your children.

**Grades 2, 3, 5 – Parents use the Online Scheduler to create appointments for SEP Conferences (link and instructions on our school website: https://heritage.washk12.org)

**Grades K, 1, 4 – Individual teachers will send home information regarding SEP Conferences and times for attending.

Student Safety: Please continue to remember safety as you pick up or drop off your student. Once you enter the parking lot please put down your cell phone and remember to be kind and courteous. If your student walks to and from school remember that the sidewalk along Riverside Dr is closed, make sure you have walked a safe route with your student and have shown them how to safely navigate to and from school.

Welcome Back Roadrunners! – Aug 2017

Hello Heritage Roadrunners,

Summer is over and we are ready to get back to school! I have been working with your amazing teachers and I am so excited to have each of you back at school. I think that this school year will be spectacular.

Our secretaries and custodians have been working extra hard to ensure that everything is ready for the new school year.

Many of our teachers will be heading out on the morning of Wednesday, Aug 9th to introduce themselves and meet their new students. Hopefully they will find you home and ready to get back to school.

Our back to school open house will be on Friday, August 11 from 1:00 to 3:00 pm. This is a great time to drop by the school, visit classrooms, walk the halls, chat with teachers, confirm bus information, pay for lunch, give me (Mr. Baker) a high 5, and ask any questions you may have. We hope to see everyone there!

Top 6 Pro Tips for Parents at the beginning of a new school year:

  1. Begin on the first day of school with transportation routine that will happen on your regular days. (bus, walk, bike, etc) This is especially helpful for our younger students to be prepared to get on a bus to go home the first day. They sometimes struggle if they didn’t ride the bus to school in the morning.
  2. Have school lunch the first day or two, even if you aren’t planning on eating it normally. Teachers and lunch staff help students practice the routine and help students know what to do those days, that way if your student ever wants to eat school lunch, they will know exactly what to do.
  3. Keep contact information current with school office. Please double check if you want to make sure we’re current. (435-628-4427)
  4. Make sure you have “opted in” to receive text messages. CLICK HERE for more information.

Heritage Update – May!

Hello Roadrunners!

Can you believe it is May!? As we power through to the end of the school year I’ve got some information to share with our Heritage families.

  • Health Resource Fair sponsored by Take Care Utah – May 19 (More Info: English / Spanish)
  • Summer Lunch Program – Free lunch for ALL children 18 and younger (More Info: English / Spanish)

Those students in grades 3~5 are continuing with their end of level assessments, if you have a student in those grades please encourage them to do their very best and help them come to school prepared by getting a good nights rest and eating a healthy breakfast.

I sincerely appreciate all the help and support you’ve provided throughout the school year. I hope that each of you can look back on the year and see that much growth has occurred with each of your children. I encourage each of you to continue learning throughout the summer. Visit the library together (http://library.washco.utah.gov/), spend time reading good books together, get outside and explore the beautiful area we live in, make memories together. Important Information! April 2017

Heritage Families,

We have many important events happening as the school year is winding down. I’ll try and keep you aware of everything, but if you have questions or need clarification, please ask!

  1. Grades 3~5 SAGE Testing: Our older students are participating in the SAGE. (WCSD resource regarding SAGE – CLICK HERE). I hope you’ll encourage your student to do their very best, help them get a good nights rest and eat a healthy breakfast. I look at our end of level assessments as a chance to show how much we’ve learned throughout the year, a celebration of our learning.
  2. Math & Literacy Night – April 20 @ 6pm – Come enjoy participating in math and literacy activities that you can do at home to keep on learning throughout summer. Dinner will be provided.
  3. 2017-18 Class Lists & Parent Input – I want to help everyone understand the process we use to put together fair, equitable, and compatible classes. In the coming weeks, I will ask teachers to work in grade-level teams and put together class lists for the upcoming year. I will ask teachers to:
    • Make every effort to place students in the best learning environment for their individual learning needs
    • Divide students in a fair and equitable way (boys/girls, academic ability, behavior, language needs, etc.)
    • Put students together who need to be together.
    • Split up students who shouldn’t be together.
    • Try to put students with a teacher who would be the best fit for each class.

    As you can imagine, meeting all of these goals is difficult. Our teachers have a unique perspective as the only individuals who see the students interact with their peers all day, 180 days of the year. Additionally, the professional-learning-community structure we use at Heritage helps guarantee the curriculum experience in whichever classroom students find themselves.

    I sincerely hope parents will trust us to put classes together for next year in the best way possible. It’s a responsibility we don’t take lightly, and we carry it out with the best interest of each child at heart. We have an extraordinary teacher in each classroom, and I feel very confident our school-wide structures will provide a guaranteed and viable curriculum in each class.

    From now until April 28 the “Parent Input Form” will be available in our office. Please stop by the office and pick one up if you so desire. The form allows parental input to be considered in the process of class placement for the upcoming school year. The bottom line is this, your child’s current classroom teacher will work to place each child in the best situation possible, your input will be considered and used to make the best class placement decision possible for each child.

Heritage Heads Up – March 21, 2017

Heritage Parents,

I hope everyone had a wonderful Spring Break. I sure enjoyed spending some time with my family and I hope each of you did as well. I also wanted to express my gratitude to all those who participated in our White Ribbon Week. It was a great learning event and I hope that each of your families benefited from participating. I believe

This is an extremely busy time of year. Of course we have a lot of events happening here at school, please take note. Here we go!

  1. Heritage Elementary Leadership Day – March 24, 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. More information on attachment (2017 Leadership Day Invite)
  2. Kindergarten and Preschool Registration – March 29 and April 59:30 a.m. – 3 p.m.  Please bring:  Birth Certificate, Immunization records, proof of residence. **Also please spread the word to friends and neighbors who may not receive this email.
  3. Lost and Found Coats and Jackets – please check the school if you are missing jackets or coats, we’ve got a lot!

Preschool Registration – Online NOW!

This year all registrations will be done online. 

Parents have two options to register their child for WCSD Preschool:

  1. Register via the link above and complete the registration process;
  2. Attend the registration day at Heritage Elementary on March 29 or April 5 and visit the preschool table. This will be set up in the entry way where computers will be set up and registration can be completed (with help from preschool personnel).

White Ribbon Week – March 6~10

Heritage Families,

We want to protect our kids from online dangers. It’s a tough job! When kids recognize threats and know exactly what to do, they are capable of making healthy choices for themselves.

March 6~10 is our White Ribbon Week at Heritage, our goal is to teach our students to be safe and smart with media and technology. Our theme, “I’ve Got the Power” promotes personal power at every age. It encourages kids to take an active role in what they view or do online.

Each day your child will earn a “Power Boost”

  • I have the power to not view embarrassing pictures or share hurtful words
  • I have the power to turn it off
  • I have the power to tell a trusted adult if something doesn’t feel right
  • I have the power to ask before I download
  • I have the power to help my friends make safe choices online

We will ask your child to teach these Power Boosts to you. Your discussions together are key. Please help your child find ways to apply these principles in your home. Empowerment and confidence will naturally spill into other areas of your child’s life. Together you can make a plan to use technology safely for learning and fun.

Heritage Heads Up – Feb 13, 2017

Hello Heritage Parents,

I just wanted to send out a quick reminder about a couple of things happening at Heritage. 

First, Thanks to each of you and our outstanding PTA for our Family Week activities. It was very enjoyable to see so many of you here during our Parent Picnic and Dads and Donuts. I really appreciate our PTA and all they do to help make Heritage a GREAT School.

Next up, SEP week – going on now! Remember our school will dismiss each day at 1:15 (No Kindergarten on Mon or Tue). I hope each of you are planning to visit with your child’s teacher to receive an update on academic progress as well as set some goals for the remainder of the school year. While you are here stop by the library for the BOGO Book Fair. Also, make sure you check the lost and found tables for coats and jackets, we’ve had a lot that have been left here at school that we’d like to return to their owner.

Finally, the WCSD recently sent out a parent survey. Please take a moment to fill this out (ENGLISH Survey / SPANISH Survey). If you have other feedback regarding our school and anything we can work to improve, please contact me directly!
